Does anyone know of any good links to small bathroom decorating. This is what I want to do with our main bathroom.
Remove shower doors and track and replace with shower curtain.
Paint. (The tub area is tiled, and there is tile 2/3's way up the wall.
Paint the vanity a color (the counter is white speckled from 1968).
Put up some shelving. Storage poor bathroom.
New floor...Cheap 12" vinyl tiles.
The bathroom is small.
I told Ashley we would pick shower curtain and paint out together. I want something cottage/traditional, and actually was thinking of gray's, but not sure on that. I know she will want something contemporary, so we will have to compromise some. I figure I can redo it all on under $125. With shower curtain, paint, and vinyl tiles.
Didn't someone here paint their bathroom grays?
I thought about walls light gray and vanity darker gray, hmm, not sure though. I like the black cupboards that were posted here and distressed.

I painted my bathroom gray. It's got white fixtures - potty, bathtub, & sink. White wainscoting, trim, door, & ceiling. Dark gray slate floor tiles with linens to match and then lighter gray walls. One of my future projects is to find an old cabinet to paint/distress and make into the vanity.

Your bathroom is the one I was thinking of. So pretty.

Thanks Marie. It bugs me TO NO END that Hubby lined up those tiles. He did it when I wasn't looking. Don't like that AT ALL, I wish they were staggered. You know, if you want that look sorta there is paintable beadboard wallpaper - it would look so good! Here's a beachy bathroom done up: http://www.abeachcottage.com/my_weblog/bathroom/

Here's another blog, she has redone several of her bathrooms and even repainted laminate countertops and her cabinets:

Before I saved up and replaced my vanity, I crackled it. You can do this with any surface as long as you prime it first. It turned our really well and did great for many years until we replaced it. I primed it, and than painted it black and than off white on top and than put the crackle mixture on it. I also had a white speckled top on mine and once I crackled the vanity and put in a new faucet, put up beadboard and painted, it all went together beautiful. Heather, I really love your bathroom. The color choices and the mirror are beautiful. Marie, I would love to seem some pics when you are done:)

I'm sorry to get off of the bathroom theme, but since we're talking about crackle finish, I wanted to ask if anyone has every used Venetian plaster. The walls on the hall going up the stairs are pitiful - they're painted a bright green and were poorly spackled, have holes and lumps and all sorts of irregularities. I saw the Venetian plaster, which can be tinted, at Home Depot...it's applied with a trowel, so I am thinking it may hide a multitude of sins. Anyone?
Or...any and all suggestions are welcome...:o

I have never used it myself, but have seen it done on DIY shows and it appears to be fairly easy to use and looked really good when completed. Just remembered that I just saw it on Dear Genevieve and it came out really really nice. Looked very easy to apply. You do not have to get it perfect, as the whole idea is a rustic primitive look. I think that would be a very good choice for you. Good luck if you decide to give it a try. And of course if you do, would love to see the finished product:)

Thanks for the encouraging words, vintagegirl. That's what i like about the Venetian plaster - seems that perfection is not an issue.
I will definitely take some before/after pics and post them here.
But first...I am still working on the kitchen and don't want to start anything else before it's done. Secret...that has happened before! :o

I found a few beautiful shades of Gray at Sherwin-Williams, I ended up going with Clary Sage when I re-did my bathroom recently. I hoped the gray would give a spa-feel, but it was to "muddy" and "dark" for my bathroom. The sage was much more complimentary. Anyway, this should be fun! I bet you can do it if you shop-around. Keep us posted!

If you have a home depot close by go there to get your paint. You can get you some Ralph Lauren for $9-11 a gallon as they are clearing it out so they can make room for evil Martha. Ralph has some awesome greys to choose from.
We had a grey bathroom in the old house..1268

Tonight Ashley and I went and bought new vinyl squares for the bathroom, the vinyl trim, and primer for the floor. Next to order a shower curtain.

So I went to order the shower curtain from Bed Bath & Beyond, and it is out of stock......GRRRR, It was striped with blues, tans, creams, called Cape May, and had a coastal feel to it. The other one Ashley liked was $60 plus tax and shipping, and I can't see paying that much for a shower curtain.

Don't you just hate that when you finally make a decision and they're out of stock? Have you tried Overstock.com? They have some striped ones, although I don't know if the style/color is what you're looking for. Their shipping is only $2.95. Also, Penney's has a horizontal stripe...free shipping with the promo code: 10 BEGINS....it's good 'til Feb. 12th.

Oh I had a nice surf over at JCP - we don't have those here, eh.
Now back to your shower curtain, Marie: what about getting a clear plastic cheap one and then find something like sheets to make a fabric one over top? Do you know what I'm talking about?

Marie do you have a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross near you? Maybe even a Big Lots or a Kohls. I found a plain green one on clearance at TJ Maxx for 4 bucks. I was shocked at the prices for shower curtains at BB&B! Target also has some nice ones. Maybe go with one of their plain white waffle-weave ones and add the coastal feel thru accessories.
Heathers idea is a good one, you could use curtains rings with clips to attach to the shower pole with a clear vinyl behind.
Good luck hunting one down Marie.

Marie,
Have you checked Walmart? They have some very nice shower curtains and the prices are good. Or I would do what Heather suggested. Purchase a clear inexpensive plastic liner and than buy either sheers or make a curtain out of a sheet. Walmart has some great sheers in either solid or some lovely stripes that are in the beachy tones. You would only need one panel and they are $10 - $20. As suggested, Ross and Marshalls have some fantastic prices also. I buy all my towels there and the average price is about $6 per towel. They have a great selection, colors, patterns, etc and they are very nice quality. Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing it completed:)

I am going to go to Walmart tonight and see what they have. I did find this one that I really like at Sears. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_09680370000P?keyword=fabric+shower+c urtain
I really like the colors and since the bathroom is very small, I thought maybe a little color and not a whole curtain of stripes might be better. Thanks for all the great suggestions.
Austin is moving back home when he is done at Columbus State and Ashley has her own version of what the bathroom should be. lol, so, I am trying to find a happy medium for all.

As women and mothers, that's what we do best! ;)
I like that shower curtain at Sears, too.
Good luck at WalMart.
