I am new here and wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself a bit!

I just poked around and read the pink kitchen thread, which is so weird because I just decided to do a pink kitchen myself... though not as "pink" since I already have a pink bedroom. I am redoing my kitchen and decided to do white and gray cabinets, and recover my chairs in bright rosey-pink. Sort of an adventure for me since I tend to use neutrals a bit.

My husband and I are elbow deep in a renovation of our 1906 stone (cottage) home in Baldwin City, KS.

We have 4 little boys that drag us away from the fun stuff.

I do have a blog for our cottage, and am very active at posting updates and pictures. Trying to improve at doing the staging and editing to make my pictures look as nice as the magazines. Perhaps I don't have quite the knack for arranging shelves and such.

Anyways... Hi and I am happy to have found you all!

Welcome, Sarah Beth!

We're happy that you've joined us here; we have a wonderful group of warm, friendly, and helpful people, as you've probably already noticed. (We miss CL too!)

First of all, I have to mention that I read the part on your blog about the suggestion that you should paint your woodwork (when you hadn't even offered that up for discussion). My house is almost 90 years old, with chestnut trim throughout, and someone who visited once wondered why I hadn't removed it. Excuuuuuuuse me?
So, you see, I can relate.

Regarding your kitchen chairs, the touch of pink sounds lovely! Are you considering solid pink, or something that might incorporate a bit of a gray pattern to tie the seat covers to the rest of the kitchen?

It's great to have you join us here. - Kim

Oh, I am afraid that too many of the people on my decorating blogs tend to be trendy-trendy. They want to paint every surface of their house and seem to think taupe walls with white trim was just invented.

I thought I would seek refuge someplace where someone would understand about historic homes, and why I'd shun paint. Thing is, I have said no to them about 20 different ways about the painting, and someone always seems to act as though I am irrational and my wood isn't that special. (Hmm... 100 year old handmade tiger oak wood trim by an extremely important local architect/builder? right!) If I followed every "trend" I'd have had peach and seafoam green, then hunter green, then blah blah blah....

Anyways... I love what I am reading so far and hope to share pictures of my updated kitchen this week. I have been working so hard on prepping cabinets. (I can't do a full blown renovation on my kitchen now, so I am making due with paint.)

P.S.
My new "cottage" fix is Country Living UK edition, since C&B is not monthly. I need my fix too frequently, I guess! :D :D :D

Oh, Kim... I haven't found my fabric(s) yet. I need to recover stools for the island, chairs for the table, do up some curtains and a tablecloth, new placemats.

I was actually looking at some gardening pictures and love the look of this pink and apple green wreath in a picture. I thought bright rose with some bright apple green might be "contemporary retro." Remember all those 50s pink and green kitchens? Like a modern update on that. But the white and gray should keep it grounded and not to circus-y. I hope anyway.

Sarah Beth ~ your home is beautiful and unique. You're right, it would be a sin to take a paint brush to your woodwork. I'm glad you're the owner of your home! I'm sure it's breathing a sigh of relief that you're the caretaker.

I had to laugh about the sponge painting in your living room. The former owner of my home was a sponge painting dynamo. We had a sponge painted dining room, master bedroom, basement and ~ horror of horrors ~ furnace!

I'll take a picture of the cabinet that we made from old cabinets. It houses our guitars. I think you'd like it.

I'd be very interested to hear more about the degree you're getting.

Welcome!

Oh you are definately in the right place about not painting good wood trim!!! That's sorta on my list of pet peeves. :o

How funny that you are thinking pink in your kitchen. Memmey did pink in her kitchen too but unlike me didn't paint the walls pink but rather has the color on accessories and so forth. It is just beautiful as all get out. :) I know what you mean about pink circus, I had my fingers crossed so many times that my kitchen wouldn't turn out that way I got finger cramps.

Are you thinking about a solid color fabric, or a print, Sarah Beth?

I like the idea of the pink/green! It's all in finding the right shades that will make it "work". I look forward to hearing more about your project!
