Does anyone have one? I am surprised that they haven't caught on more than they have. I am trying to work up a floor plan for the bungalow's kitchen, which is only about 8x10, and I don't have space for one of those behemoth stainless-steel fridges that everyone else seems to have.

IKEA seems to offer the cheapest one (its a Whirlpool):

I LOVE the built-in fridges that blend in with your cabinetry, but WOW they are expensive!

Counter-depth fridges are definitely a good idea - same with microwaves. I think Ikea also makes the microwave which would be good I guess, just the inside area wouldn't be as big.

We wanted a counter depth but you really lose a lot of space with them. And for our family of 6 that was a big deal. If you have a small family then I guess you could make it work. But we all know what happened when I bought my big fridge- total gut - oh well love it now.

We went with a counter depth. We have a VERY narrow galley kitchen and needed all the space we could get. It still sticks out a bit from the counter. I agree with Tammy you do lose space inside, but its just the two of us so it didn't matter as much.

Thanks for that pic, annielinz. That's very helpful and gives me a good idea of what my setup might look like. I'm curious, what are the dimensions of your kitchen? I think mine might be about the same.

And yes, the fridge would only serve 2 people, so I'm not worried about loss of space. I could see why it might be an issue for bigger families, though.

The area where the frig is (if I measured correctly) is a little over 8 feet from wall to wall. It opens up wider where the dining table and hutch is.
We ended up going with the french door type of frig because (at least in theory) when someone was looking in the frig someone (an incredibly small someone) could pass behind :D

We just bought a counter depth because our fridge is in a small area at the edge of the kitchen (used to be an "ice box" there.) Anyway, we didn't want one that stuck out too far cause it's the walkway to the back door, so opted for the counter depth. It looked like plenty of space in it, but it's small! (and there's only 2 of us) Guess when we move someday it's staying cause of that. The freezer is especially small, we have to use our old fridge in the basement as a back up for both fridge and freezer.
