Once again our household is dealing with unemployment. At this point things are not good.:( I have spent the past month doing research on home businesses and yesterday ordered my business kit for becoming a Home Inventory Specialists. The work opportunities in our area are slim, hubby is without work, and I have to do something to get this family back on track.

I found this business opportunity, did extensive research, and because it is something that can be done on the weekends, I can continue my daycare business. I have come to the conclusion that in order to survive in this world anymore we almost have to be self supporting and not depend on an outside job. Time will tell. The investment was not big, and if all goes as planned I can recoup the cost in the first 2 months once I get it up and running.

A Home Inventory Specialists is a person that goes into a person's home and does an in depth inventory of property. This report would be presented to the insurance company by the homeowner if a catastrophe happened to the home such as fire, tornado, earthquake or theft. There are many ways to offer the business and many ways to charge. I am looking forward to getting started soon. My mom is going to be my first customer.

It sounds like a good opportunity. How will it fit with your assistant activities director position? I think anyone who has to keep track of a bunch of little kids and all their stuff for a living ought to be very good at inventory, so I think this is right up your alley. Good luck!

The activity assistant position is only every other weekend, my daycare is Mon thru Fri, so that leaves every other weekend and evenings to work on the inventory business. I am not out to get rich, but to maybe bring in a few extra bucks per month.

I've never heard of this area- BUT what a GREAT idea. You are so resourceful- I know you'll do a great job too!

Best of luck, I know the economy is so hard now, it's a great idea to know what you "actually" have in your home for insurance (and more) purposes.

I came across it Googling "Home Businesses for people over 50". lol. Found it, did lots of research, asked questions on a forum, thought it out, and decided that I was going to attempt it. And yes, we don't even have our home inventoried should something happen, and we have lots of antiques and collections. My sister and my mom are going to be my first clients......I should get my business kit by the end of the week. I am excited to get the kit and start getting organized. On a good note....we are getting a raise at the church come January, and will be making over $12 hour cleaning....which we put in about 10 hours per week. That job is giving us survival right now as Dave has no job again.
