I LOVE giving gifts when going to visit someone. I make soap so I usually tuck in a bar of soap (seasonal like pumpkin, etc.) when going somewhere special.

Vintage Girl mentioned bringing some salsa- and some other clever items too!

What about you? Any suggestions?

I usually take a bottle of wine, sometimes some flowers (though I remember reading once that it wasn't a good idea to take flowers because the hostess then had to stop cooking and put them in water).

Ah, yes, I guess that was a bit sexist. But now you can answer this question: as a host, would you rather have wine or flowers? Or something else? What's an appropriate gift for a guy who's hosting a dinner party?

"What's an appropriate gift for a guy ( Bloke, thank you:) ) who's hosting a dinner party?"

You're imagination, of course;):D

Of course a bottle of wine- that's more than perfect.

I was at an antique store today, and the shopkeeper was telling me she's putting some holiday coffee or teas in a teacup/saucer combo to give as a hostess gift.

One really nice gift- wasn't a hostess gift but could be was a plate of cookies, and the giver said to keep the plate. Nice!
