View Full Version : Polish Pottery
I was asked to post a picture of Polish Pottery...so here ya go. Polish Pottery is handmade in Poland and I have been collecting it for years... There are many different patterns, and almost all the patterns include the deep blue color.
I don't collect just one pattern, but many- and use it every day...
Anyone else collect and use their "collection" everyday too? Post pics!1338

Oh my gosh that is gorgeous! I collect quilts, quilt tops and baby quilts. I use them everyday. I put them over my leather couch for the chiwi's to lay on, use the quilt tops and baby quilts for their dog beds. The rest of the quilts are kept stacked up on an old bench in my living room and we use them daily to cuddle up in when watching tv or reading a book. Each bed also has at least one quilt folded at the bottom of the bed, in addition to the quilt on the bed. I used to never let anyone touch them, but decided they needed to be enjoyed and used, not just stared at. Some are very old and have what I liketo call "life tears and rips", but that makes them all the more precious to me. I love dishes also and have a huge collection, but nothing that is really collectible or worth anything. I just buy what makes me happy and than use it on a daily rotating basis. This week we are using a very pretty set of blue and white peacock dishes that I found years ago. I also have some very cute cowboy plastic plates that I love. My family hates them because they are very slick and your food has a tendency to fly off the plates:D
I also LOVE quilts ~ had some vintage ones that my daughter grabbed  for her home... I also keep a quilt folded at the bottom of each bed--it's so warm and inviting ~ and perfect to for a cover up and quick nap.
Using baby quilts is PERFECT for a dog's bedding ~ no why didn't I think of that! All my dogs LOVE their beddings, one has a fuzzy type covering that I just lay over it ~ easy to wash that way.

Very pretty pottery, Gigi! I've never seen it before.
I love quilts, too. I have several vintage ones that my grandma and her sister made. I buy those cheap little fuzzy blankets ($4) at Wal Mart and cut them into several pieces for my cats to curl up on. They wash pretty easy and I don't feel too bad when I have to toss one.

That is beautiful pottery!! I have a soft spot for cobalt blue, dont have it anywhere really in my house (except for some cups and saucers I snagged at an auction) which is rather odd. I must have it somewhere, might have to take a new view of my house and see if I do and just don't realize it.:p
I love quilts, unfortunately mine are in the repair pile, lost quilt hole (mother in law snagged the top and then lost it) or stored away for "someday". I made a really neat baby blanket for my dd when she was a wee one and I adore it. Now trying to figure out how to make it usable still.:o

Chyna,
You could drape your daughter's baby quilt over the back or arm of a chair, or you could make it into a pillow. If you did not want to cut it for the pillow, you could just wrap it around an existing pillow, pin it in place, and than use the pillow that way. I also use some of my baby quilts as window coverings. I just fold tham in half, clip on drapery hooks and than use them as valances. Or you can save the quilt someday for when your daughter has her first baby:)
I think making the quilt into a pillow or valance is a great idea! Years ago, my mother took an old dress of hers and made it into a pillow shaw for my daughter.

Oh wow. That Polish pottery is beautiful. I love blue and white.
I sort of have the start of a dishes collection. I was given some pieces from the
Corelle Sunsations collection that I use a lot. I only got three plates, so I can't use them if I have company for supper, but I love using them when it's me and my mom, who moved in with me recently. I have a set of Cottage pattern Corelle dishes for the times I have visitors. I love this stuff because I can't break it and the dishwasher doesn't break it. My mom has arthritis in her hands and has trouble gripping stuff, so it's nice to have something pretty that is not plastic, and can be used for everyday and special occassions and still look new. I am bidding on pieces to go with my set. So far so good, it's not hard to find.

Carrie,
I love corelle. Has always been one of my favorites. Very easy to take care of. Love the sunflower pattern. I have never seen that before. It is adorable. You better watch out, you may have someone bidding against you;):D

My dd's baby blanket is hand embroidered, I changed the patterns and made it waaaaayyy more personalized. It also has a giant teddy bear in the middle. there has to be way to show it off besides hanging it on the walls and not really comfortable with draping over a chair either. I have a couple of cats who suddenly think they should sharpen their claws.

Just joined this forum and am reading the posts to catch up!
I have several collections going: egg cups, sherry/cordial glasses, glass candlesticks, pottery and Pink Transferware. I like the mix and match china collection that I have now, but could use a few mugs. The new pieces and the old blend together well on the table, at least I think so.
Here is a pic of some of my North Carolina pottery:

Also I love the table setting- so warm and welcoming.

Thanks for the welcome, Gigi! The Seagrove area of North Carolina just south of Greensboro and west of Asheboro is very well known for having lots and I mean lots, of potteries. You can find many styles or you can stick with one particular potter and collect from them. I often give pieces that I like as wedding presents. The scalloped edge pie plate, the berry bowl, the batter bowl, and the chip/dip set are favorites.
Yes! I can why this pottery would be a wonderful wedding gift.

Welcome, Teresa! Somehow I missed your post last week.
I have to chime in with everyone else - the colors of the pottery blend so well together, and your table setting is elegant but cozy!
With Easter around the corner, now is a great time to show off your pretty egg cup collection; I have a few, but nothing like yours. Thanks for sharing the photos with us. :)

Carrie, the Pink Transferware is not hard to find. I got the first set of place settings for 4 at a discount bed/bath shop for about $25. Then I found some dinner plates at TJMaxx; next 2 breakfast/luncheon plates at an antique store (they are very crazed, but that doesn't bother me); I found one mug at another TJMaxx while on vacation; and I have found some pieces at Replacements, LTD which just happens to be down the interstate a few miles.
Some pieces I have are better quality and some are cheap, but I think they all go together well on the same table. You could do the same with the blue transferware like Blue Willow and Blue Onion.
Here are some of the patterns listed at Replacements by manufacturer, pattern name:
Churchill, The Brook
Midwinter, Willow Red
Johnson Bros., Coaching Scene, Old Britain Castles
Mason's, Vista
Wedgewood, Woodland (pink)
and many others!
When you surf the Replacements web site, you need to know the manufacturer and pattern name.
Hope this helps!
