Well ladies it looks like they are throwing in the towel over at Mary Englebrecht's Home, I got a notice yesterday that they can't find a publisher so my subscription will be changed over to Martha Stewart Living. I'm relieved!!! I actually let my subscription go a couple years ago when we hit a snag in the finances and have been wanting to go back for awhile plus I've not been impressed with ME Home since they changed up things a few/couple years ago. Sad to see that another magazine went down the toilets though.:(

Gosh, I really loved ME. In fact, I think it was my very favorite magazine. I'll enjoy Martha Stewart, but not nearly as much.
Not thrilled with Sunset Magazine. I tried calling them yesterday to switch my subscription, but their whole customer service department was down.

Yes, Chyna, I had mentioned that about ME Home Companion in the magazine thread...that is my FAVORITE magazine too, Lisa, and I'm so upset. It was one of kind.
I had even written in about ME's mag a few years ago to gently protest...when they made their changes. The ME drawings on the cover made the magazine stand out from all the rest. So many of the newer ME covers were just like any old "home magazine". Perhaps that's what they were trying to do - draw new readers who aren't so artsy and weren't attracted to the cute ME covers.
Well, I've got a stash of ME magazines in a trunk - I even bought some that I had thrown away (when I was trying to be "good" about clutter), and I guess I'll forever be reading them over and over. I'm wondering what they'll do with their website too - I guess they'll just keep it, as there are lots of other items for sale, and they'll just eliminate the magazine section. :(

I just packed up all my magazines (ME Home) and brought them into work. I just lost all my love of it when they did that change, you can even see the difference when you have them all put away in a magazine rack. I can see why I liked it and then why I lost interest.
I wish them luck and hope they do a little reorganizing. And you are so right, you could have changed the title of the magazine and you'd never notice it wasn't something like any other home deco mag. That is just wrong!

It was intially a very "artsy", quaint magazine...but maybe there weren't enough subscribers, and so they figured their old readers would stay, and they'd get new ones by branching out a bit, and trying to look like a million other home mags.
Who knows? Maybe they did a focus group and people didn't like ME's drawn covers. I cannot imagine why...but, diff'rent strokes!

I thought they were more cottage-y before the great-10yrs in Publication change. I pulled one of the original magazines from the bathroom and keeping it. It has such cute little houses in it, not like the I don't know what houses they started showing. Reminded me of Martha Stewart Living but not as high end. Guess that is what bugged me, they were trying to be like everyone else. If I wanted everyone else I would have been subscribed to them.

Yes, Chyna, I agree! I think they were trying to be all things to all people...wanted their cottage/artsy readers, but needed more people to buy the magazine, so they tried to branch out a little. But it was a little too much for my taste! I still bought the magazine, faithfully, though. I have a few of her items around my house - a teapot, a sculpture...I always buy ME's calendars...
By the way, I found this entry on the ME website:
Will Home Companion ever be published again?
Mary Engelbreit does retain ownership of the Home Companion name and brand, so we do hope that at some point in the future we are able to secure a new publishing partner to continue to deliver Mary’s inspiring style!
What does this mean for Mary?
Just to nip any rumors in the bud, this definitely does NOT mean Mary is retiring! Since its inception, Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion has operated as a separate business from Mary’s art licensing company, Mary Engelbreit Studios. She will continue her active schedule of illustrating greeting cards, calendars and books and her company will continue developing licensed products based on her illustrations. The publication of MEHC is near and dear to Mary Engelbreit Studios, but this change will not have a financial or operational impact on the company.
Mary obviously had smart legal counsel in keeping the magazine as a separate entity. Good for you, Mary!! I have no doubt that she will continue to spread happiness with her amazing work...

I saw that too. Hey did you download the wallpaper to your computer yet? The people here at work just love that I have ME wallpaper on my computer all the time, I keep telling them where to find it themselves but they are chickens.

Yes, Chyna, I've been using the ME wallpaper for quite a long time. My favorite is "She Who Laughs, Lasts"!! I change it with the seasons/holidays.

I change mine all the time too. So you were right on the money when you sent me those stationary for our gift exchange. :) I still have your note on the wall in my porch just because of the ME paper. LOL
