Ok I know this chair has a "ladder back" but what is the seat type called - is it "thatched"? Thanks!

Here's what I found for you. Go to http://www.wickerwoman.com/seatweaving,
and scroll down to common seatweaving, and then click on checkerboard. Here's what it says, but there's a photo that's somewhat similar to what you posted:


Checkerboard seats are usually woven with Oriental seagrass, rush, or Danish Modern cord in a checkerboard pattern. The chair in this photograph was woven in a checkerboard pattern using Oriental seagrass.
