Sorry to hear about this. But, really it sounds like it's not his fault~something that could happen to anyone. I'm sure he feels just as bad about it, too. I hope the jobs pan out with this new venture.

I agree - he was inexperienced at that particular job. If it's anyone's fault, the company should have given him some training and if they did...it obviously wasn't enough.
Marie, sometimes it just seems that when we're "down", life keeps pounding away at us. Things WILL brighten up - please hang in there.
In the meantime, let your mind go back to that wonderful Friday night that you recently spent with your sisters. F U N! And there will be more of that in your future. If you can put on some music that you like, please do so...it will help to lift your spirits...

Marie,
Stop and smell the coffee. Dave should not be operating a forklift without training certification. When he goes to unemployment OSHA mandates they have certifications. This company should know that but probaly think you don't know that. Slow down you need to take time for you.

I agree with Les-- check this out-
I hope things are looking up for you and your family soon.

Marie - does Dave even qualify for unemployment after only two weeks on the job? Why is he not drawing unemployment from the job he had for 40 years?

By rights, yes he should qualify for maximum benefits. We filed an appeal, and are just waiting, so far everyone I spoke with has said this is not right. We will get a lawyer if we have to. He didn't qualify to collect unemployment from the job of 11 days anyways......it would come from his job of 40 years he was laid off from. They are just being asses, both the company of 11 days and unemployment. I hope we hear something soon, he has 0$$ coming in and it is killing us.

Trying to get caught up with all of you . . . I just seem to have very little personal time lately and when I do it is not spent on my computer!
Mac - did Dave get ANY unemployment when he was let go from the job he held for 40 years? Did he have any retirement benefits from that job?
Have you also considered meeting with a financial counselor? The most important thing is to pay your mortgage first and do everything not to fall behind on that. Like so many others you may have to consider a bankruptcy if you have debt besides your mortgage. Personally, I think all these credit card companies and loan groups who have been charging outrageous finance charges deserve to have many people walk away from this debt through bankruptcy. Seriously, 20 - 30% or more in finance charges?
Of course, people who just run up charges and loan debt for fancy cars, new clothes and furnishings, meals out, etc. should not be able to just "start fresh" but for people who are in dire circumstances (as it sounds as though you are) should have an "out".
In the meantime, you and Dave and your children ought to bear in mind that you are still in your home and I assume have food on your table. And it does sound as though Dave is capable of working - even if it is as the "dog scooper". You can not and should not be the only one worrying yourself to death over this and not doing anything at all does not help.
