I started back to our local community college tonight. It was deja vu all over again. The last time I tried to go back, the two classes I needed, one started at 2:30 even though it was supposed to be an evening class, and one was cancelled due to low enrollment. I registered for classes about 3 weeks ago. I was going to work on a Marketing Assistant certificate...to help me with my inventory business, but last Thursday, one of the classes were cancelled, so I then had to cancel the other one.....(There was no point in taking only one of the 3, as there was no knowing when the other 2 would be offered again). So, at last minute I had to fit another class into my schedule. I am now taking Desktop Management. I was only able to find 1 class that fit my schedule, most were already filled. On a good note....I know 2 of the ladies that are in the class. I will finish this degree if it is only 1 class at a time. I am over halfway done with an Associates in Office Administration.

Good luck with your classes, Marie! Are you still working at the nursing home?

No I am not. I worked one weekend and that was it. The job only paid minimum wage at $7.40. It was a 20 mile drive one way. After spending 2 days with the so called "Activity Director", who was a young 24 yr old, I realized she was a lazy, do as little as possible, sit on her butt kind of girl. I had some experience after interning at a different nursing home for 7 months while getting my certification so I had a good idea of what should be getting done/what we should be doing. This girl did not do much of anything. The Sunday hours were 1pm to 4pm, and I honestly did not have any idea how those hours would impact my weekends and the things I needed to get done to run my childcare job.

I was sent an exit interview questionnaire. I answered all the questions, plus attached a letter explaining my reasons. I am not anticipating any response to my answers, as in past experiences, people don't want to truly hear "why" you left, because if they did, they would call you and actually address the issues in some way. I will keep my eyes open for other positions. In the end, I would only make approximately $45 per weekend for 9 hours, after taxes and gas, and I decided quickly that it was not worth giving up 2 weekends per month for less than $90 a month. I was supposed to only work every other weekend. The first day I was there, the girl said to me, "You are not going to like this, I have you scheduled for 3 weekends in a row". Those 3 weekends were the 2 weekends before Christmas and Christmas weekend. I was in no way prepared to work 3 weekends in a row before and leading up to Christmas, as we had scheduled family Christmas dinners, I didn't have my shopping done, etc. Why she waited till the last minute to let me know what the schedule was is beyond me.

I am continuing to work on my Home Inventory business......I actually have a name for it.....Burch Home Inventory and Property Services. I have done one practice inventory so far and joined a forum for Inventory Specialist. I am in the early stages of working on advertising/website, and getting things set up and running. I have written a Business Plan. I am currently working on getting my taxes organized and ready for the tax lady so I can get our FASFA's completed by March. Ugg, so much to do.

I really believe a "Home Inventory" biz sounds like a good plan!
