My dear son received a nonsufficient fund notice from the bank today, to a tune of $150 in fees. He ended up calling the bank here, gave them permission to talk with me and go over his account, so we could figure out where he messed up. (He lives in Columbus and we live in Bryan, a 3 hour drive). So I got to meet the bank manager, got to see his transactions with his debit card, and got to see what he has been doing the past 1 1/2 months. He is going to be shocked when I show him his printout of his transactions, and when he finds out I know where he has ate, went out, and every other stupid little transaction he has done with his debit card. He is going to get a harsh lesson in being responsible tomorrow.

The bank manager said he would drop half the fees if Austin called him on Monday and talked to him. Maybe he will listen to him.

We deposited his $500 check from the college for books in Austin's account on Monday here in Bryan, but it didn't post till Tuesday. He bought his books on Monday too, and that is where the trouble started. It was a matter of a few hours crossing over and messing him up.

But now, I know how he is handling his debit card, and it isn't the right way, so in a way a good thing because this has to be addressed and I never would of known his bad debit card use if I hadn't went to the bank and talked with them. Hard lesson learned from him.....it is still costing him $75, it would have been $150.

Ahh too aware of the bad debit with kids. I took my kids away. I know put some in each month at the beginning of the month and he takes it all out and uses it till it is gone- once gone- ahh well too bad.

So was he not supposed to be using his card for eating out and such? Good luck and hope it works out for him. My mom used to make me fix my own messes or face the natural consequences, and it made me pretty responsible and self-reliant.

It was his own checking and debit account. I had no money in it. He used his debit card and was about $7 overdrawn, then used it 4 more times on a bunch of 1 to 7 dollar items, and had $150 in overdraft fees, of which they are going to drop 1/2 of them if he calls them on Monday. I did not give him any money at all. I deposited a check from his college on Monday, which was posted on Tuesday, and he bought books on Monday. It was crossed over a matter of a few hours.
