I have many projects on my list of things to do. One of them is replacing my front door, which is a pair of sliding glass doors. There is really nothing wrong with the front door, except I've heard sliding patio doors are not secure. Along with the flip lock on the door, I put a wood bar in the tract of the door as an added security measure. This makes my front door feel more like a secondary door that I can't use well. I use the side door instead because it has a deadbolt. I want something different but still in keeping with a cottages looks. I'm looking at these:

They aren't radically different, but I hope they would make a more fitting front door.

I have a slider as my back door, and I don't feel very safe with it. It's true that they're easy to get into because they can be lifted right out of their track. Even the broom handle in the door trick doesn't work that well because it doesn't take much force to snap the stick. I always expect to come home from work and find out someone has broken into my house. I do have a very secure storm door on my front door (I think it's an Anderson door) that has three extra locks that engage when you lock it from the inside and lift the handle up. You'd think someone could invent a truly secure sliding glass door, wouldn't you? I guess what they say is true: your best bet for preventing break-ins is a noisy dog. I like the look of the doors in your picture. Are they French doors or are they sliders made to look like French doors (I saw some of those at Lowe's and was very impressed)? It's a very nice, cottagey look, I think.

I really like those door. We have a patio door that is kind of like a French door, but the right side opens like a regular entrance door, and the left side is stationary.

Those are true French doors. I have the slider that looks like a French door. I even have the noisy dog, lol. Problem is people kind of look at her size and laugh and she runs when approached. Kind of makes me miss my Schnauzer. I never had to worry about security.

Thank you. It's what attracted me to the house. It still reminds me of Katrina Cottage.

There's nothing that makes the front of a house quite so much as a front porch. Yours is adorable.

The main door sets the tone of the building. The front door is an integral part of a home's design. It offers protection from the outer environment and serves as a threshold to the inner world. When you close your front door you are in your own private world. If the main entry is too close to the street, you may feel unsafe or you may get disturbed by the noise in the street. A fence, bush, tree, or even a screen door or screened window can do much to provide separation from the street. However, they should not inhibit the flow of Chi by blocking the entry.

Yeah my chi doesn't like it when you block her view of the street with anything.http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d88/Shadowreb/100_0733.jpg

Smell the sarcasm anyone? ;)

I had a slider going out to the patio of our old house. Our house got robbed while we were at work several years ago. They kicked the front door open which was a solid wood door with a dead bolt not through the slider. I replaced my sliders with French doors. They really gave a different look to the house. I got the doors with the panes enclosed in glass. It sure was easier to clean than having to clean each panel. With three dogs that was important to me. The only thing I missed was not having a screen so I could use it during nice weather. We sold the house so I didn't have to get a screen for it.

Thanks. She is a ham. My other dogs always looked away from the camera, she poses and smiles.
I did think of the french doors, but since the doors are open in nice weather, I would need screens. Not sure I'm ready to enclose the porch with screen to get them, though that is a though. Dunno.

Here is our puppy and we have to leave the blind down on the front door as he freaks himself out when he sees his reflection - he goes on a barking frenzy. Reflections and dogs on tv...wierd guy.
