When it comes to decorating, upcycling items can be a fun way to add unconventional style to your home. There are no rules when it comes to upcycling, which adds a personal touch to each project.

Upcycling doesn’t have to be elaborate either! With just a few simple items, these thrifted glass lamp shades were easily transformed into unique urn style vases.

Decoupage is a simple way to upcycle an item. In just a few easy steps, paper napkins, Modge Podge, and a sponge brush were used to transform these glass shades into decorative vases.

Step 1: Apply a layer of Modge Podge over the entire outside of the glass shade. Allow the Modge Podge to dry slightly, to a sticky consistency.

Step 2: While your Modge Podge sits, remove the back layer of your paper napkin from the top decorative layer. This can be done by tearing a corner of the napkin, and removing the two layers from each other.  You will only need the decorative top layer.

Step 3: Once your Modge Podge has reached a sticky consistency, tear your napkin into pieces, and apply to the glass shade. After the Modge Podge has completely dried, add another thin layer of Modge Podge over top the napkin. Once the top layer of decoupage has completely dried on the glass shade, repeat the process for the underside of the shade as well and let dry.

That’s it! Your upcycled shade is ready to be displayed! Simply turn the shade upside down, and you have your vase! Here, the urn style vases add a touch of vintage flare to a nature inspired fall tablescape. In order to make the vases a focal point, upside down wooden bowls were used to add height, while simple pumpkins add touches of the season.
