Come along for a walking tour of English cottages dressed in their holiday best.
Greetings from England! I’ve always loved visiting picturesque places to photograph, and I am delighted to share some of the many captures I have of cottages near my home.
One of my favorite things to photograph is a quaint Cotswold village, especially a street scene full of cottages that have stood the test of time. These “chocolate box” thatched-roof cottages are so charming and heartwarming. Christmas is especially magical, and I have a wonderful time taking photographs of festive displays in shop windows and eateries as well as the gorgeous doorways and cottages adorned for the holidays.
When my daughters encouraged me to join Instagram to share my photos after one of our trips across the pond to New England, I decided to give it a whirl. Since 2015, I have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback on my daily posts of cottages.
What started as a hobby has now developed into a passion for discovering, sharing and recommending destinations for others to enjoy. I love the joy it brings to fellow cottage enthusiasts and those who may not have the good fortune to visit our beautiful country.
Crown Jewels. Broadway in Worcestershire is a small market town, often considered to be one of the jewels in the Cotswolds crown. High Street is lined with honey-colored cottages, shops, hotels and eateries. It is especially nice to visit at Christmastime as everyone decorates their homes, either by hanging a pretty wreath on their front door or by draping strings of lights over the trees and greenery in their gardens. There is usually a Christmas Market held in December—a chance to shop, eat and listen to a local choir singing and it always gets us into the Christmas spirit. One year, there was even a snow machine that made it very atmospheric, as in the United Kingdom we rarely experience real snow in December.
Ready, Set, Action. Lacock, Wiltshire, is a lovely village in the south of the Cotswolds, which is a very popular film location. Many movies and TV dramas have used the location, including “Pride & Prejudice,” “Harry Potter,” “Downton Abbey” and “Cranford.”
Take a Window Seat. This lovely home, featuring three front window alcoves, is in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, England.
