Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year: Very Peri

Every year, Pantone (the global authority on all things color) goes through a process to select their newest Color of the Year. Pantone’s color experts must use thoughtful consideration and trend analysis as they scour the industries of the world – like the entertainment, art, and technology industries – to find new color influences.

Once they make their decision and release it to the public, the special shade becomes impactful, appearing in fashion designs, décor pieces, and product packaging.

In 2021, Pantone shook things up by choosing two shades: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. The company said the union of colors was “one of strength and positivity.” This year, Pantone has gone back to selecting just one hue.

2022’s color is . . . Very Peri! This medium purple tone is meant to “encourage personal inventiveness and creativity,” according to the company’s website. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explained the choice, saying, “As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet-red undertone, Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expression.”

Wondering how to incorporate this year’s color into your home’s design?

We’ve got a few ideas!

Interior designer Rachel Cannon has utilized this shade of purple in several of her projects. Use her photos as a source of inspiration:

Textile companies Stout and Marcus Williams both have various fabrics that come close to Very Peri. Here are a few options:

Couture Lamps, a lighting and accessories company, sells beautiful lamps that show off this year’s influential hue. Any of these options would make the perfect accent piece:
