December 20, 2016

I feel like the Bridger family could work in a Mexican restaurant! Why? Because we just rolled up all the old carpet into one huge burrito. Adios! Gross and good riddance. We are doing basic light demo while we wait for our permit, and we are still trying to get used to the benefits of rehabbing in a small town. What would take us months to get a permit in Chicago is more like weeks here in Fennville, Michigan. No holding or pressing numbers to talk to someone live either. What? The silver lining of a stressful renovation.

During demo we uncovered a couple of nice original doors and more ship lap, but we also discovered structural issues and water damage. How can such a small home have so many issues?! I started to see my husband Gabe Googling bull dozing companies and calmly reminded him of the big picture (and by calmly, I mean grabbing his phone and running away so he couldn’t call). We got back on track and handed over another bag of money to save this little white farmhouse.

Back to the positive! This week we decided to keep 7 feet of the second floor (we demoed the rest) and turn it into a loft. We’ve always wanted a loft, and with this project, we are going to try new things and bring to life those dormant pins that usually just live on Pinterest boards.
