Do you want to update your home, but don’t want to buy all new furniture and décor? No problem!  A quick coat of paint can easily add a pop of color or a whole new look.  These 10 simple paint projects will make your home colorful and lively, without breaking the bank or your back.

  1. Paint doors and window frames. On the exterior, this can add a great pop of color, especially against a neutral-colored home. You can even paint the door and window frames different colors to add more color.
  2. Paint brick. This is a simple and easy way to upgrade a space. Keep the look of an exposed brick wall while also adding some color to accent the room.
  3. Paint accent walls. Whether this is one whole wall, or just a section of a wall, this can give a room a completely new feel. Use lighter colors to brighten the space and make it feel bigger!
  4. Paint old soup cans. This works best with spray paint, but you can add designs with paintbrush or sponge. Color soup cans make an inexpensive alternative to vases or pencil holders!
  5. Try monochrome. Paint the walls, floor, and ceiling same color. Make sure to use other accent colors in décor to add contrast. Painted floors will wear faster, but this can add a historical touch to your cottage.
  6. Paint tables or cabinets and sand them a bit with sandpaper to get a distressed look. Chairs are easy to paint too—just take the cushion out and spray paint the rest.
  7. Paint your kitchen island. This is a great way to add contrast against kitchen cabinets and countertops.
  8. Paint the back of bookshelves. This can add nice contrast as well as draw the eye to a shelf full of your favorite books, souvenirs, or vintage pieces!
  9. Use chalkboard paint. It comes in many different colors, which makes a great accent wall as well as a great place to write to-do lists or just doodle. Great for kitchens or kid’s rooms!
  10. Even if it’s just a small background like this, paint some art directly onto the wall. Use stencils for more geometric shapes, or paint your own original design. Hang a frame around it or leave it as is—you can make it as big or as small, as simple or complicated as you want!
