We came across a long past tradition of May Day and thought it would be worthwhile to reignite it by spreading this idea around the internet.
A May Day Basket can be as simple as a paper cone filled with garden clippings and flowers. Tie your cone up with a pretty ribbon, hang it on your neighbors doorknob, ring the bell and dart. Viola! You’ve spread kindness in a tangible way and brought a smile to someone’s face. In a world filled with tech communication, where the “pop-over” has fallen away, what a fun way to meet new neighbors or remind friends that they’re loved and seen.

The festivals and celebrations of the changing seasons and the coming of spring and all it’s blooms has evolved into this neighborhood May Day tradition. It can be a fun way to invite your children to welcome spring and connect with the nature in their own garden.

The city of Annapolis, Maryland has held an Annual May Day Basket Competition for the last 63 years. What a fun tradition! The local Garden Club judges and the winners receive blue-ribbons.
You’re never too young (or old) to sneak around and sprinkle kindness! Gather some pretty paper, tin cans, string and flowers and craft some May Day Baskets for your neighbors. Let your creativity loose, there is NO wrong way. You could fill your baskets with flowers, popcorn, small trinkets, paper flowers, candies or even baked goods.
